He was here to fulfill  it.&nbsp;<span class=000175102-22022006>Maybe it&#8217;s just me, but I like the idea  of being a &#8220;Bible Fulfiller&#8221; a tad more than being a &#8220;Bible Follower&#8221;. For me,  it&#8217;s&nbsp;a<\/span><span class=714563714-19012006> s<\/span>ubtle, but very  important difference. Listen closely&#8230;<\/font><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 12pt\"><span  style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Arial\"><span class=275275214-12012006><font  size=2>If&nbsp;<span class=000175102-22022006>I <\/span>approach  Scripture&nbsp;with a mind to&nbsp;<em><span class=000175102-22022006>follow  it<\/span><\/em>,&nbsp;<span class=000175102-22022006>I<\/span>&#8216;ll end up focusing  on the Scripture&#8217;s that&nbsp;<span class=000175102-22022006>I<\/span> can  extract&nbsp;rules from<span class=000175102-22022006>. I&#8217;d<\/span>&nbsp;adhere  to&nbsp;<span class=000175102-22022006>those rules <\/span>externally<span  class=000175102-22022006>, and if I do a good job I&#8217;ll probably be considered  religious<\/span>.&nbsp;<span class=000175102-22022006>However,  i<\/span>f&nbsp;<span class=000175102-22022006>I<\/span> approach  Scripture&nbsp;<span class=000175102-22022006>with a mind  to&nbsp;<\/span><em>fulfill<span class=000175102-22022006>  it<\/span><\/em>,&nbsp;<span class=000175102-22022006>I<\/span>&#8216;ll end up focusing  on&nbsp;<span class=000175102-22022006>the Scriptures that tell me what to  become. I&#8217;d strive to conform my character and priorities to the  Idea&nbsp;<\/span>behind&nbsp;Scripture,<span class=000175102-22022006> and if I  do a good job I&#8217;ll probably be considered a good person<\/span>&#8230;a Christ-like  person.<\/font><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 12pt\"><span  style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Arial\"><span class=275275214-12012006><font size=2>Let me  give you an&nbsp;example&#8230;Eph 5:18-20 says <em>&#8220;Do not get drunk on wine, which  leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. Speak to one another  with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the  Lord,&nbsp;always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of  our Lord Jesus Christ.&#8221;<\/em><\/font><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 12pt\"><span  style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Arial\"><span class=275275214-12012006><font size=2><span  class=000175102-22022006>The<\/span>&nbsp;<strong><em>Bible  Follower<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;<span class=000175102-22022006>in  me&nbsp;<\/span>read<span class=000175102-22022006>s<\/span> th<span  class=000175102-22022006>e<\/span>s<span  class=000175102-22022006>e<\/span>&nbsp;<span class=000175102-22022006>3  verses&nbsp;and sees some rules I need to follow&nbsp;in order to please  God.<\/span>&nbsp;1)&nbsp;<span class=000175102-22022006>Don&#8217;t<\/span> get drunk  on wine, 2)&nbsp;<span class=000175102-22022006>don&#8217;t<\/span> be involved in  debauchery, 3) find psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs and speak those  to&nbsp;other<span class=000175102-22022006>s<\/span>, 4)&nbsp;<span  class=000175102-22022006>and <\/span>sing to God.&nbsp;<span  class=000175102-22022006>I would see o<\/span><span  class=000175102-22022006>bedience&nbsp;in terms of&nbsp;doing these things  externally (taking nothing away and adding nothing to them, by the  way)<\/span>,&nbsp;<span class=000175102-22022006>and <\/span>the Bible  Follower&nbsp;<span class=000175102-22022006>in me <\/span>would say&nbsp;<span  class=000175102-22022006>I am&nbsp;<\/span>pleasing God&nbsp;<span  class=000175102-22022006>an<\/span>d therefore is saved.<\/font><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 12pt\"><span  style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Arial\"><span class=275275214-12012006><font size=2>The  <strong><em>Bible Fulfiller<\/em><\/strong> <span class=000175102-22022006>in  me&nbsp;<\/span>read<span class=000175102-22022006>s<\/span> this text&nbsp;<span  class=000175102-22022006>and <\/span><span class=000175102-22022006>sees some  qualities that I need to become in order to have the life God promises.  <\/span><span class=000175102-22022006>I need to become 1) someone who  is&nbsp;<\/span>filled with the Spirit, 2) a part of community of friends who  will speak God&#8217;s truth to each other&nbsp;3) a heart-felt, sincere,  aware-of-God<span class=000175102-22022006>, grateful  <\/span>worshipper.&nbsp;<span class=000175102-22022006>With  my&nbsp;<\/span>agreement that&nbsp;<span class=000175102-22022006>I<\/span>  should fulfill these expressions of Godliness and Christ-likeness on  earth,&nbsp;<span class=000175102-22022006>I would as a&nbsp;<\/span>Bible  Fulfiller&nbsp;say that&nbsp;<span class=000175102-22022006>I am<\/span> pleasing  God and following the Bible by becoming who the Bible says&nbsp;<span  class=000175102-22022006>I am.<\/span><\/font><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 12pt\"><span  style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Arial\"><span class=275275214-12012006><font size=2><span  class=000175102-22022006>The<\/span>&nbsp;Bible&nbsp;<span  class=000175102-22022006>F<\/span>ollower is at risk of only following the rules  of the Bible,&nbsp;<span class=000175102-22022006>but<\/span> not fulfilling  it<span class=000175102-22022006> and becoming like Jesus<\/span>.&nbsp;<span  class=000175102-22022006>T<\/span>he Bible fulfiller will not only go to Christ  for salvation as the&nbsp;<span class=000175102-22022006>Bible<\/span> tells him  to,&nbsp;<span class=000175102-22022006>but <\/span>he will also end up following  the&nbsp;Bible as&nbsp;God intends.&nbsp;<\/font><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 12pt\"><span  style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Arial\"><span class=275275214-12012006><font size=2>The Bible  is&nbsp;<span class=000175102-22022006>our most <\/span><span  class=000175102-22022006>authoritative <\/span>source for knowing Jesus. So we  need it. But we don&#8217;t need it like we need Jesus. We use it to find  Jesus.<\/font><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 12pt\"><span  style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Arial\"><span class=275275214-12012006><font size=2><span  class=000175102-22022006>I wish it was a trivial issue. But it isn&#8217;t. You see it  in churches.<\/span><\/font><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 12pt\"><span  style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Arial\"><span class=275275214-12012006><span  class=000175102-22022006><\/span><font size=2>Jesus<span  class=714563714-19012006>&#8211;<\/span>centered churches don&#8217;t argue and split over  &#8220;Biblical Issues&#8221;. Bible-centered churches do. Jesus<span  class=000175102-22022006>&#8211;<\/span>centered&nbsp;<span  class=000175102-22022006>churches<\/span> try to be like Jesus in all  circumstances<span class=000175102-22022006>, including when people don&#8217;t agree  with them about the&nbsp;Bible<\/span>. Bible-centered&nbsp;<span  class=000175102-22022006>churches<\/span> try to get all people to believe like  them about the Bible. Jesus<span  class=000175102-22022006>&#8211;<\/span>centered&nbsp;<span  class=000175102-22022006>churches<\/span>&nbsp;<span  class=000175102-22022006>think they are&nbsp;<\/span>saved because of Jesus being  at their center.
